In the sparkling heart of Los Angeles, under the dazzling lights of a movie premiere, fate brought Priyanka and Rodney together. Introduced by Rodney’s parents, their connection was immediate—an encounter that Priyanka reflects upon with grace and depth in her poignant memoir, Bird Milk & Mosquito Bones, which I highly recommend. While Rodney was directing The 5 Year Engagement in Ann Arbor, the couple chose to tie the knot in Birmingham, Michigan.  It was a place of personal significance, as Priyanka’s family ultimately found refuge there after leaving their homeland.

Their wedding was an exquisite convergence of heritage and devotion. The ceremony commenced with the signing of the Ketubah, a sacred affirmation of their commitment, followed by a vibrant Kashmiri celebration and a solemn Jewish service. Each tradition was honored with intention, creating a harmonious blend of cultures that paid tribute to their shared values and distinct backgrounds. It was a true privilege to document such a meaningful occasion—a celebration not only of love, but of legacy, resilience, and unity.
